Theatrical and OTT Release

Talking about the theatrical release, well, Boys Hostel was first released in theatres on August 26, 2023. Earlier, the original Kannada version had already hit the big screens on July 21, 2023. And in case you’re wondering where you can watch it right now, well, after November 10th, 2023, it is available to stream on ETV Win, and just last year, in early 2024, it came on Aha as well.

Cast and Characters

It is not just one lead role film, you see, the movie actually features four fresh faces in the lead roles.

First is Prajwal B.P. plays Ajith, you know, an aspiring filmmaker who lands in a bizarre situation overnight. Then there are Manjunath Nayaka, Srivatsa Shyam, and Tejas Jayanna Urs play his close friends, each adding their own touch of humour, and that is precisely what seems to be working in favour of this film. Other than that, Rakesh Rajkumar appears as the strict hostel warden.

Director and Crew

Without a doubt, this movie is one of the best and top-notch works of Nithin Krishnamurthy, and not a lot of people know this, but it was his debut film as a director. Talking about the creative team, well, B. Ajaneesh Loknath composed the music, Arvind S. Kashyap handled the cinematography, and the editing was done by Suresh M.

Story Summary

If you have lived that hostel life already, then that reason alone is enough to make you watch this film, but still, talking about the story, you see, the story revolves around a group of college students who find their warden unconscious one night and assume the worst. The comic typing is perfect in every scene where, in panic, they try to hide the situation while also preparing for their exams. Later, though, they discover it was part of a short-film setup. They help shoot the final scene before rushing back to study.

Budget and Box Office Collection

Looking at the concept and the way the movie is made with an artistic touch, you would not even believe that the budget for this film was only around ₹4 crore. Though it turned out to be a surprise hit by collecting over ₹11 crore in its first week in India, eventually crossing ₹13 crore at the domestic box office.
