And then, in 2023, we saw the release of Bichagadu 2, which surely is a sequel to the previous movie, but it kinda shifts to the sci-fi action genre, and the trailer already made a crazy hype for this film. Theatrical and OTT Release
Bichagadu 2, the Telugu dubbed version of Pichaikkaran 2, was first released in theatres on 19 May 2023. For those who missed the big screen release, the movie started streaming on Disney+ Hotstar from 18 June 2023.
Cast and Characters
Vijay Antony in this film plays the two characters of Sathya and Vijay Gurumoorthy, where Sathya is a poor beggar and Vijay Gurumoorthy is a rich businessman. He is paired opposite Kavya Thapar, who plays Hema, Vijay’s girlfriend. Radha Ravi, Yogi Babu, Hareesh Peradi, Dev Gill, John Vijay, Y. G. Mahendran, and Mansoor Ali Khan provide support in the film as supportive roles.
Director and Production Team
Vijay Antony directed his first film with Bichagadu 2, so he kinda made his debut as a director in the Telugu cinema with this. He wrote the story together with K Palani and Paul Antony. On top of all else, he composed the soundtrack and edited the film. Cinematography was done by Om Narayan. The film was produced by Vijay Antony Film Corporation, under the leadership of Fatima Vijay Antony.
Storyline
For those who haven’t even watched the teaser or trailer yet, well, the story revolves around Sathya, a beggar who is on the hunt for his missing sister. The cracking story then follows Sathya as he is kidnapped and suddenly has his brain transplanted into the body of a billionaire. While trying to adjust to this new life, he realises that a group of powerful people plan to use him for their own gains. Armed with his new identity, Sathya sets up the Anti-Bikili Foundation for the poor. He then ends up at the courts for fighting back against his misuse. He accepts the sentence but is positive about reuniting back with his sister.
Budget and Box Office Performance
Being a project with a ₹30 crore budget, inclusive of promotions, with an approximate grossing of ₹34.25 crore net in India and ₹41.45 crore worldwide, Bichagadu 2 turned out to be profitable.
